What Is Performance Anxiety?

Performance Anxiety

Performance anxiety, often called "stage fright," is a psychological condition where an individual experiences intense fear or nervousness about performing in front of others. Common in musicians, actors, athletes, and public speakers, it can cause symptoms like sweating, shaking, rapid heartbeat, and mental blocks, leading to impaired performance.

This anxiety stems from a fear of negative judgment, failure, or not meeting self-imposed standards. Despite being a normal response to pressure, performance anxiety can become debilitating, hindering a person's ability to perform comfortably and confidently.

While there are multiple techniques to help manage performance anxiety, such as deep breathing and visualization, Greg’s integrative approach gets to the root of the issue to make permanent change. He will help you transform your psychology and reprogram your brain for confident, joyful, free-flowing performances.

Common Performance Anxiety Questions

Please contact us with any questions we haven’t answered here.

  • Is performance anxiety curable?

Absolutely! By reframing expectations and experiencing the feeling of successful performance, you can begin to anticipate where fear and doubt start and replace them with a feeling of confidence and well-being.

  • How is your approach different?

The Fubrian approach encompasses the visualization of success, the management of expectation and developing the feeling of a successful performance before the performance itself.

  • How long does it take to recover?

We’ve seen a few clients take huge leaps forward immediately. While this can happen with the right perspective and understanding, it is far more common for musicians to need time to understand and correctly apply our recovery system.

  • What causes performance anxiety?

It varies due to factors like personality, previous experiences, and individual stress tolerance. People with high self-expectations may be more prone.
